Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has launched the Gruha Arogya Yojana, a healthcare initiative aimed at delivering essential medical services to citizens at their doorsteps.
The scheme will first be introduced in Kolar district, a region with high prevalence rates of hypertension and diabetes, and is expected to expand statewide by January with an allocated budget of INR 92.75 Cr.
During the launch, CM Siddaramaiah shared his own experiences managing diabetes and underscored the need for accessible healthcare, especially for those unable to afford regular check-ups.
"This scheme will address both infectious and non-infectious diseases, ensuring healthcare reaches the poor and vulnerable," the CM stated.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao emphasized the program's role in monitoring blood pressure and diabetes to prevent severe conditions like kidney failure and heart disease.
"Through this initiative, the health department aims to protect individuals from life-threatening diseases," he noted, encouraging public participation in the scheme.
In its second phase, the Gruha Arogya Yojana will focus on follow-up and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through monthly health camps at wellness centers.
The initiative targets residents aged 30 and above, screening for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancers such as oral, breast, and cervical. Additionally, screenings will cover obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and mental health conditions.
Healthcare teams, including community health officers, primary healthcare providers, health inspectors, and ASHAs, will conduct door-to-door screenings in Ayushman Arogya Mandir areas on designated days.
Screenings are scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
The program will provide free diabetes and hypertension medications, with special provisions for seniors, people with disabilities, and those requiring palliative care.
Monthly health camps at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will support follow-up care and adherence to treatments, overseen by medical officers.
