TDK Corporation, a Japan-based leader in electronic solutions, has joined hands with the Gopalakrishnan-Deshpande Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (GDC) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras to launch the 'TIIC Accelerator Program 2024'.
This initiative aims to drive innovation in the healthcare technology and diagnostics sector by leveraging the talents of Indian STEM university researchers and startups.
Through this collaboration, TDK Corporation seeks to harness India's rich talent pool and creative potential to propel advancements in diagnostics, medical devices, and related areas.
The program will offer targeted support, mentorship, and opportunities for partnerships and investments to accelerate the growth of promising healthcare technology ventures.
The 'TIIC Accelerator Program 2024' aims to significantly impact India's healthcare technology startup ecosystem by combining TDK's extensive experience in the technology industry with GDC's expertise in commercializing research and fostering entrepreneurship.
The program will invite participation from startups across various segments of healthcare technologies and diagnostics
This includes diagnostic labs and services, diagnostic devices (excluding implants), consumables, advanced materials for medical diagnostics, equipment-related services, wearables, analytics, 3D printing, robotics, AR/VR, among others.
The program will begin with a call for applications in June 2024. Up-and-coming startups and teams will be selected to participate.
GDC will then host an in-person workshop for these selected teams at the IIT Madras campus. Following this, the teams will undergo an intensive 6–8-week boot camp focusing on customer discovery.
In the next phase, a set of shortlisted teams will enter a business mentorship program. This phase aims to prepare them for investment readiness and to pitch their ideas to TDK to secure investments or explore other potential collaborations.
By providing the necessary support and resources, TDK Corporation and IIT Madras aim to catalyze breakthroughs that can enhance healthcare diagnostics and technology on a global scale.
In another development, IIT Madras recently introduced India's first 'medical device calibration facility on wheels.' This initiative is part of IIT Madras' 'Anaivarukkum IITM' (IITM for all) Initiatives, which aim to revolutionize healthcare accessibility and quality nationwide.
The mobile calibration facility addresses the crucial need for maintenance and quality assurance of life-saving medical devices. Calibration is vital to ensure the accuracy of medical instruments, enabling precise disease diagnosis and effective treatment.
This initiative aims to improve healthcare delivery across diverse geographical locations in India by offering an affordable and quality calibration facility.
