The Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) has unveiled Department of Robotic Joint Replacement, to offer comprehensive care for patients suffering from knee problems.
The newly launched department will perform knee replacement surgeries using advanced robotic knee replacement procedures. Further, it will utilise the Rosa Knee robotic system, which customises knee replacements for each patient’s unique anatomy, potentially resulting in a more natural knee feeling post-surgery.
The robotic knee replacement technology offers added precision, accuracy, personalisation, and the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) technique, which allows patients to start walking within hours of surgery.
Moreover, it ensures comprehensive patient care, with physiotherapists assessing individual needs and follow-up appointments scheduled for continued care. Additionally, the department will use the latest US FDA-approved anatomically accurate personalised implants.
The launch was preceded by several successful knee robotics surgeries and improved patient outcomes with this advanced navigational technology.
With this initiative, ISIC seeks to provide better and more affordable care for patients suffering from knee problems. The use of robotic technology aims to reduce the risk of complications and improve patient outcomes.
Sharing her views, Bholi Ahluwalia, chairperson, ISIC said, “We, at ISIC, always strive to adopt cutting-edge technologies for better clinical outcomes. With the launch of cutting-edge knee robotics, ISIC would be performing thousands of knee replacements with newly introduced robotic knee replacement procedures each year and would sincerely strive to bridge the existing gap.”
Founded by Major Hari Pal Singh in 1989, the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) is a Hi-Tech Holistic Care Centre that now offers one of the world’s most advanced medical care centres to patients facing problems related to the spine, bones, joints, and neurological issues. The centre provides quality care, good infrastructure, experienced experts, and world-class treatment and care to lakhs of patients.
According to a Times of India report, more than 2.5 Lakh people undergo total knee replacement in India every year which is 2.5 times the number of such procedures conducted annually about five years ago.
Earlier, IIT-Guwahati developed a new AI model that can predict the severity of knee osteoarthritis by analysing X-ray images. This advancement helps doctors diagnose and treat the disease more accurately and efficiently. The AI-based model leverages ML algorithms.
Further, it effectively scrutinises thousands of X-ray images to predict the severity of knee osteoarthritis. The model considers a range of factors, including bone density, joint space width, and bone spurs, to provide a precise diagnosis.
