Dr Paul remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) aligns closely with "Niramaya Bharat" (Healthy India).

India has reached a pivotal moment in improving its healthcare sector, focusing on universal health coverage, disease prevention, and enhancing human resources, according to Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's Health Pavilion at the 43rd India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Dr Paul emphasized that the pace of progress is positioning India to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and match developed nations in health indicators like life expectancy and infant mortality rates.

Dr Paul remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) aligns closely with "Niramaya Bharat" (Healthy India).

He noted significant strides in initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which now extends to senior citizens aged 70 and above, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which delivers comprehensive primary healthcare.

Significant Achievements in Disease Elimination

Highlighting India's progress in disease elimination, Dr Paul revealed that over five crore individuals have been screened for sickle cell anemia, moving closer to the target of eight crore.

He also stated that the nation is on track to eliminate seven diseases—measles, rubella, trachoma, kala-azar, tuberculosis, leprosy, and lymphatic filariasis—within five years.

Additionally, India is advancing towards malaria elimination through robust infrastructural developments.

India is also making strides in mental health, oral health, and family planning programs. This shift towards holistic healthcare underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens.

Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, present at the event, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. Dr Paul concluded by emphasizing that India’s healthcare achievements are critical steps towards fulfilling the vision of a healthier, more developed nation.
