One of the key initiatives under these agreements is collaborating with the Assam Government-IITG Healthcare Foundation, which aims to advance India’s healthcare self-reliance.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati Research Park has entered into three major Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) with various institutions to accelerate research and development across sustainable urbanization, healthcare innovation, and deep technology entrepreneurship.
These partnerships were signed in a formal ceremony led by Prof Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati and Chairperson of the IIT Guwahati Research Park, alongside leaders from partnering institutions, including the Centre for Urbanization, Buildings, and Environment (CUBE) at IIT Madras, Assam Government-IITG Healthcare Foundation, and Pravartak, IIT Madras.
One of the key initiatives under these agreements is collaborating with the Assam Government-IITG Healthcare Foundation, which aims to advance India’s healthcare self-reliance.
The partnership focuses on reducing dependency on imported medical equipment by developing indigenous healthcare technology.
A cornerstone of this collaboration is establishing a 400-bed super-specialty hospital, alongside postgraduate medical programs designed to foster advancements in biotechnology and medical technology.
Dr Sajal Sen, Chief Operating Officer of the Assam Government-IITG Healthcare Foundation, highlighted the critical role this partnership will play in creating a resilient healthcare infrastructure.
“A secure nation depends on robust healthcare. Through this initiative, we aim to reduce dependency on imports by fostering collaboration among doctors, engineers, and scientists. With IIT Guwahati's support, we are committed to creating a healthier, more resilient nation.” Sen added.
The collaboration will also establish the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII), envisioned as a premier “Make in India” center for medical technology.
The institute will specialize in diagnostics and treatment innovations, housing a postgraduate medical center, a super-specialty hospital, and a research wing to drive indigenous healthcare advancements.
Another significant partnership focuses on sustainable urban development in the Northeast, with IIT Guwahati Research Park collaborating with CUBE, IIT Madras’s Center for Urbanization, Buildings, and Environment.
This initiative aims to establish a specialized urban infrastructure and sustainability hub within the IIT Guwahati Research Park, addressing issues such as sustainable urban development, water resource management, and efficient transportation solutions.
In collaboration with IITM Pravartak, IIT Guwahati Research Park will implement programs focused on skill development, entrepreneurship, and high-tech innovation.
This partnership aims to enhance the Northeast's engagement in deep technology sectors, particularly with an emphasis on semiconductor technology, electronics design, and local skill development.
The program will include evening tuition centers to support students in rural communities, thereby expanding access to education and technical expertise in remote areas.
These partnerships collectively align with IIT Guwahati Research Park’s mission to establish itself as an innovation hub for the Northeast.
Through collaborative initiatives in sustainable urbanization, healthcare, and deep tech, the research park seeks to address pressing local and national challenges.
Prof Jalihal summarized the long-term vision, stating, “Our flagship initiative with the Assam Government to create a super-specialty hospital and simulation lab will unite medical and engineering professionals to tackle pressing healthcare challenges. These initiatives, including our collaborations with CUBE and IITM Pravartak, position IIT Guwahati Research Park to be a transformative force for regional and national development.”
