IIT Delhi Transfers 2 Medtech Devices for Cancer & Pathogen Detection

These innovations are part of the Nanoelectronics Network for Research and Applications (NNetRA) project, funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) has transferred two major medical technologies developed by its researchers to industry.

The two technologies, 'DNA Aptamer for Prostate Cancer Detection' and 'Photonic Chip based Spectrometric Biosensor' for pathogen detection, have been transferred to Dr Swapnil Sinha of HUMMSA Biotech, Kolkata, and Nitin Zaveri of UNINO Healthcare, Mumbai, respectively, at an event hosted by IITD.

These technologies, designed to detect prostate cancer and pathogen detection in the early stage, have been developed under a government-sponsored project by the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer at IIT Delhi.

The 'DNA Aptamer for Prostate Cancer Detection' technology, is capable of binding to specific oncogenes and has potential applications in theranostics for prostate cancer.

The 'Photonic Chip based Spectrometric Biosensor' technology, created by Prof Joby Joseph and his team, facilitates speedy and accurate detection of pathogens, aiding in the prevention of infectious diseases.

These innovations are part of the Nanoelectronics Network for Research and Applications (NNetRA) project, funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi has played a pivotal role in nurturing technology transfer, creating an environment for technology developers to bring their products to the market.

In March, Gurugram-based Antara Senior Care, partnered with the IIT Delhi to develop innovative mobility solutions tailored for senior-specific offerings. Antara, a provider of lifestyle and lifecare solutions for seniors signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Delhi to address the challenges faced by the elderly population.

Earlier this year, The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in partnership with IIT Delhi, created AI-driven simulators for training neurosurgeons in minimally invasive microscopic and endoscopic surgical techniques.

This initiative aims to transform the assessment of neurosurgical skills, particularly those intricate actions crucial in brain surgery. The advanced simulators relieve the evaluation burden on neurosurgeons along with establishing standardized training and assessment protocols within the field.
