Minister Sridhar Babu, following a review meeting with top representatives from these companies, announced that construction on Pharma City’s core infrastructure is advancing, with industries expected to set up operations within the next year.
Telangana’s ambitious Pharma City project in Hyderabad, initially under reconsideration, is now moving forward rapidly with substantial infrastructure development, Industries and IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu confirmed on Wednesday.
Major pharma firms—Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Aurobindo Pharma, Hetero, Laurus Labs, and MSN Pharmaceuticals—have committed to significant investments in the 19,000-acre project, envisioned as India's answer to large-scale international pharma hubs like those in China.
Minister Sridhar Babu, following a review meeting with top representatives from these companies, announced that construction on Pharma City’s core infrastructure is advancing, with industries expected to set up operations within the next year.
He emphasized the project aligns with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision of a dedicated pharma hub within the broader future city plan.
The IT minister further noted that the five Hyderabad-based pharma giants are poised to employ over two lakh people and have been allotted 50-acre plots each in the project's initial phase.
He briefed industry representatives on the ongoing groundwork, which includes ensuring an uninterrupted water and electricity supply to the site.
Moreover, key connectivity enhancements are also part of the project’s blueprint.
Sridhar Babu highlighted plans for a world-class 300-foot-wide highway, connecting Kongara Kalan to the Regional Ring Road (RRR), which is expected to streamline logistics for the pharmaceutical hub.
“The project notification for this highway has been issued, and the tendering process is likely to be completed by June next year,” he stated.
In addition, a parallel Metro rail system is planned to enhance connectivity to Pharma City, offering a seamless transit option for employees and stakeholders in the industrial zone.
