The objective behind this expansion is to ensure quality outcomes for patients, highlighting the importance of holistic healthcare over mere geographical outreach.

Humana's CenterWell senior-focused primary care division is going to start 50 new centres by 2025 to serve the increasing aging demographic.

The expansion plan aimed at enhancing healthcare access for aging individuals, aligning with the increasing demand for specialised care services among the senior population.

Primary objective of the expansion involves ensuring quality outcomes for patients, highlighting the importance of holistic healthcare over mere geographical outreach.

Commenting on the same, Dr Erica Savage-Jeter, division chief medical officer for CenterWell Senior Primary Care, revealed during the Fierce Health Payer Summit that the expansion targets were "aggressive," underscoring the ambition to cater to a larger patient base.

She said, "Our aim is to achieve improved patient outcomes, allowing them to spend more quality time with family and friends and reducing sick days."

With the aging population statistics projecting a significant rise in the demand for specialized care, the healthcare industry's focus on primary and specialty services becomes crucial.

Furthermore, the growth agenda extends to technological innovation within CenterWell, focusing on integrating data analytics and AI to bolster patient care. However, the primary emphasis remains on improving clinical outcomes rather than just technological advancement.

CenterWell's approach integrates various services, including home health care and pharmacy services, fostering a 'wraparound' support system aimed at addressing individual patient needs comprehensively.

This strategy ensures a team-based approach to healthcare delivery, catering to clinical and non-clinical factors affecting a patient's well-being.

Savage-Jeter highlighted the significance of non-clinical factors, such as access to nutritious food and community resources, in determining an individual's overall health.

CenterWell clinics collaborate with local partners to facilitate access to healthy food and community engagement, transforming the clinics into community centers that offer diverse services beyond medical care.

Moreover, introducing the in-home primary care program, Primary Care Anywhere, in select regions has enabled CenterWell to extend its services to patients' homes, bridging the gap between clinical and home care.

This integrated approach ensures patients receive continuous care and necessary resources beyond the clinic.
