This launch signifies an advancement in promoting workplace safety and reducing the financial burden of NSIs in the healthcare sector.

Hindustan Syringes and Medical Devices (HMD) has introduced Dispojekt single-use syringes with safety needles in a bid to address the pressing issue of needle stick injuries (NSIs) among healthcare workers.

This launch signifies an advancement in promoting workplace safety and reducing the financial burden of NSIs in the healthcare sector.

The use of safety needles in healthcare settings is hailed for its potential to mitigate the risks of needle stick injuries, significantly reducing healthcare worker injuries and the associated costs.

Emphasizing the role of Dispojekt, Rajiv Nath, MD, HMD, said, "Equipped with a safety shield (SIP Shield), the Dispojekt syringe addresses critical concerns of needle stick injuries and reaffirms our commitment as a market leader towards excellence in healthcare."

Financial Impact & Market Penetration

The implementation of safety needles ensures a safer workplace environment for healthcare personnel and offers substantial financial benefits to healthcare institutions.

By minimizing NSIs, safety needles reduce the need for post-exposure prophylaxis and associated healthcare costs, decreasing compensation claims and absenteeism.

Talking about market share with the innovative Dispojekt syringes, Sohail Nath, executive director, HMD, said, "We aim for 60-70 percent market share in the next three years, thanks to our proprietary Dispojekt."

Investment & Expansion Plans

HMD has invested significantly in expanding its production capacity to meet the growing demand for Dispojekt safety syringes.

Revealing the company’s expansion plans, Nath said, "In the first phase, we have invested approximately INR 70 Cr to produce 200 million syringes and needles per annum."

Furthermore, the company plans to increase its production capacity to 300 million pieces per annum in the second phase, with an additional investment of INR 10 Cr to INR 15 Cr.

Affordability & Global Impact

One of the key highlights of Dispojekt safety needle syringes is their affordability, particularly for developing countries like India. "Dispojekt safety needle syringes have been designed to be affordable for the developing world including India and are nearly half the cost of safety single-use syringes used in the USA and Europe," Nath added.  This affordability factor is crucial in ensuring widespread adoption and addressing global healthcare challenges. Additionally, the MD highlighted the importance of safety-engineered devices (SED) in reducing needlestick injuries, citing numerous clinical studies and evaluations conducted to assess their safety and efficacy. According to him, "Numerous clinical studies and evaluations have been conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of syringes with safety needles. There are clinical trials which have proved that the use of SED has reduced the incidence of needle stick injuries in healthcare workers."

Global Efforts & Collaboration

Moreover, the launch of Dispojekt safety syringes aligns with global efforts led by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) to combat NSIs and prevent the transmission of blood-borne diseases.

While the executive director also emphasized the global impact of Dispojekt syringes, stating, "Dispojekt safety needle syringes will not only further strengthen our position as a market leader but will give a boost to global collective efforts of WHO to check NSIs leading to transmission of blood-borne diseases."

This collaboration underscores the importance of innovative solutions in addressing critical healthcare challenges globally.
