The system will be initially rolled out as a pilot project connecting AIIMS New Delhi and AIIMS Bilaspur.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, has announced the launch of the Inter-AIIMS Referral Portal—a digital platform developed by AIIMS New Delhi aimed at improving healthcare coordination and patient referrals across India’s AIIMS network.

The portal is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and the overall patient experience in the country’s public healthcare system.

Technology-Driven Approach to Referral Management

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the new system incorporates advanced technologies, including facial recognition and automated workflows, to ensure a seamless and secure referral process.

The portal is designed to significantly reduce waiting times and manual errors while fostering a more patient-centric experience.

“By harnessing the power of technology, we can transform the medical sector and enhance the lives of millions,” said JP Nadda during the launch.

Pilot Rollout & Expansion Plans

The system will be initially rolled out as a pilot project connecting AIIMS New Delhi and AIIMS Bilaspur.

This phase will serve as a proof of concept to refine operational procedures and address any practical challenges before the platform is expanded to other AIIMS institutions across the country.

The portal allows authorized medical staff to manage slot bookings, institutional protocols, and communication channels effectively, ensuring timely and quality care.

It also empowers patients by providing secure and transparent access to referral information, improving clarity and communication throughout their medical journey.

The new system is integrated with AIIMS’s existing online portal for booking Vishram Sadan accommodation, allowing patients and their families to secure affordable lodging during treatment periods away from home.

Minister Nadda highlighted the government’s commitment to digital innovation in healthcare and said the portal reflects a broader vision of accessible and efficient healthcare for all.

The initiative lays the foundation for a comprehensive, technology-enabled referral system across India’s public hospitals.
