Union Health Minister JP Nadda has inaugurated super specialty blocks at government medical colleges in Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur.

On his two-day visit to Bihar, Nadda also inspected the land designated for the construction of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga.

Each super specialty block, built at a cost of INR 150 Cr, is equipped with 210 beds.

The new facilities include eight modular operation theatres and specialized departments in cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, nephrology, neonatology, and burn and plastic reconstructive surgery.

At the inauguration event at Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, Nadda emphasized the healthcare contributions made under PM Modi's leadership, supported by CM Nitish Kumar and state health minister Mangal Pandey.

"Residents of Muzaffarpur will no longer need to travel to Patna or Delhi for complex surgeries or treatments," he stated.

Nadda also visited the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre on the SKMCH premises and reviewed the progress of the upcoming 5,462-bed Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), which is being constructed at a cost of INR 5,540 Cr.

Further, the Union Health Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress, and PMCH Superintendent Dr IS Thakur announced that the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by February next year.

On social media platform X, Nadda posted: "The PMCH will provide modern world-class services. The NDA government under the leadership of PM Modi is dedicated to establishing grand health institutions, renovating them, and eliminating regional imbalances in basic infrastructure."

Earlier, Nadda inaugurated super specialty blocks at government medical colleges in Gaya and Bhagalpur and an upgraded Regional Institute of Ophthalmology at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna.

Nadda also highlighted other recent healthcare developments in Bihar, such as the increase in the number of medical colleges from 12 to 35.

He stated that once the proposed AIIMS in Darbhanga is completed, residents will no longer need to travel outside the state for advanced treatment, and even patients from neighboring Nepal could benefit.
