The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH), Punjab, under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, to collaborate on academic and research initiatives in healthcare and technology.
The MoU was signed by HBCH Director Dr Ashish Gulia and IIT Mandi Director Prof Lakshmidhar Behera.
A delegation from IIT Mandi, led by Prof Behera, visited HBCH’s New Chandigarh facility. There, they discussed integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge technology into cancer care and medical research.
During the visit, Dr Gulia provided insights into HBCH Punjab’s medical infrastructure, highlighting the hospital’s achievements in cancer treatment and research.
He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to leveraging technology for improving patient care.
“This collaboration will enable joint research initiatives and skill development in the health sector by utilizing AI and technological advancements,” Dr Gulia stated.
The partnership aims to create a knowledge-sharing platform that fosters interdisciplinary learning and technological innovation in cancer treatment.

HBCH Punjab, an extension of the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 24, 2022. The hospital plays a critical role in regional cancer care and medical research.
With this MoU, HBCH, and IIT Mandi seek to bridge the gap between scientific research and medical practice, ultimately benefiting both academia and society by advancing technology-driven healthcare solutions.
