Reportedly, the hospital facility will have advanced facilities with modern equipment and specialised ICUs, where TB and chest disease patients can be admitted separately. Further, emergency service will be available 24 hours for chest and heart patients.

Haryana is all set to launch a first-of-its-kind state hospital in Ambala for the treatment of TB, chest and heart-related diseases. It will be the second such hospital in north India, the other being in Delhi. The overall financial expenditure of the construction is INR 56 Cr.

Reportedly, the hospital facility will have advanced facilities with modern equipment and specialised ICUs, where TB and chest disease patients can be admitted separately. Further, emergency service will be available 24 hours for chest and heart patients.

The 100-bed hospital facility will offer general chest OPDs, a lung cancer clinic, an antiretroviral therapy clinic, an allergy and immunotherapy clinic, a tobacco cessation clinic, a pre-anaesthesia check-up clinic, a sleep clinic, an ENT clinic, an audiometry clinic, a nebulisation room for OPD patients, HIV counselling centre, dietician's clinic, mental health and patient education clinic.

Moreover, the hospital will also have two ICUs, one for TB and another for respiratory diseases (non- TB), 10 beds each.

Sharing his views, Dr Sukhpreet Singh, ASMO, civil surgeon's office, said, "A virological research and diagnostic lab with accreditation from ICMR, Delhi here shall be a state-of-the-art facility where apart from routine investigations, samples for first-line drugs and second-line drugs shall be processed within 72 hours. Currently, Haryana has one intermediate reference laboratory in Karnal with culture and other facilities that remain overburdened with a delay of reports of more than 6 weeks."

The hospital will also be used as a nodal centre for TB and heart disease training. Apart from doctors, training of lab technicians and National TB Elimination Program (NTE) staff can also be conducted here. Not only Ambala and Haryana, but patients from nearby states will also be able to avail of its facilities.

Dr Kuldeep Singh, director health services, National Health Mission, Haryana and civil surgeon, Ambala, said, "A tender worth 156 crore was allotted last month, out of which funds of 24 crore were released for initial tasks. The construction will start soon after the foundation stone with a duration of project completion of 24 months."

In another such significant development, the UP government approved INR 10 Cr for 11 hospitals in the state for infrastructural development. The allocated funds are focussed on several key areas including infrastructure development, the set up of dialysis units, and blood banks, procurement of furniture and equipment, and the installation of fire-fighting systems.
