This collaboration aims to enhance mental health services in tier 2 and 3 cities and rural areas of India.
Emoneeds, a Gurugram-based digital mental health platform, will provide free mental health treatment to over 2,500 patients.
For this initiative, Emonneds has partnered with the New Venture Fund for Global Policy and Advocacy (NVF for GPA) and the Hyderabad-based NGO NAADAM.
This collaboration aims to enhance mental health services in Tier-II and III cities and rural areas of India. Over the next year, the initiative will provide free mental health treatment to patients in the remote areas.
The New Venture Fund for Global Policy and Advocacy (NVF for GPA), based in Washington, is focused on advancing global health by supporting innovative and impactful policy and advocacy projects.
NAADAM, a non-governmental organization, will act as Emoneeds’ technical partner, assisting in delivering clinical services.
Under the partnership, Emoneeds will run Project Manas, offering offline and online mental health services. These include outpatient services, clinical assessments, and psychiatric and psychological support, all provided free of charge to patients in underserved areas.
The project will use a network of over 40 psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors, each with expertise in chronic mental illnesses.
“We aim to address the critical gap in mental health services by providing tailored support to those in need,” said a spokesperson from Emoneeds.
The initiative is designed to offer both immediate and long-term care. It will provide free outpatient services to 2,500 patients and extended treatment to 1,000 individuals with severe mental health conditions. Depending on their needs, these patients will receive care for three to nine months.
Each patient involved in Project Manas will be assigned a dedicated team, including a psychiatrist, psychologist, and counselor. This team will follow standard clinical protocols to deliver personalized treatment based on the patient’s specific mental health condition and its severity.
“We are committed to ensuring that individuals in underserved regions receive high-quality mental health care. This partnership represents a significant step towards improving access to mental health services in areas that need it most,” said a representative from NAADAM.
Recently, the National Mental Health Survey (NMHS) 2015-16 reported that 10.6% of adults in India suffer from mental disorders, with a substantial treatment gap.
Further, the Economic Survey 2023-24, presented by Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, underscores the importance of addressing mental health for individual and national development.
The prevalence of mental health issues is notably higher in urban metro areas (13.5%) compared to rural regions (6.9%) and urban non-metro areas (4.3%).
