The initiative is specifically timed to launch ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, aligning with global efforts to promote breast cancer prevention and early detection.
Granules India, in collaboration with the Asian Medical Foundation, UC Breast Foundation, and AIG Hospitals, unveiled its Mobile Cancer Screening Unit, the Breast Health Express.
This unit aims to enhance early detection of breast cancer and other health conditions in underserved areas.
This state-of-the-art mobile unit, part of a larger initiative led by the Granules Trust, was introduced to make healthcare more accessible in and around Hyderabad.
Reportedly, plans are also being made to expand to other districts in Telangana.
The Breast Health Express brings essential health services, including advanced mammography, ultrasound facilities, and routine health checks for hemoglobin, blood pressure, and glucose levels, directly to communities with limited access to such care.
The initiative is specifically timed to launch ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, aligning with global efforts to promote breast cancer prevention and early detection.
“This initiative is a much-needed step in addressing the challenges faced by underserved communities in accessing timely healthcare. We hope to contribute significantly to early diagnosis and treatment by offering these services directly within their reach,” said a spokesperson for Granules India.
The mobile unit aims to bridge the gap in healthcare services for rural and economically disadvantaged populations by offering free screening and medicines. The focus on breast cancer is significant given the increasing rate of detection in India, where early diagnosis can dramatically improve treatment outcomes.
Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in the fight against cancer.
He said, “Cancer continues to be one of the leading health challenges in India, and early detection is key to improving survival rates. We are proud to be part of this effort to bring life-saving screenings to the doorstep of people who need it most.”
Launching just ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Breast Health Express aligns with the global focus on breast cancer prevention. This effort highlights the pressing need for greater awareness around breast health, as well as the importance of early detection.
With breast cancer being one of the most common cancers among women in India, this mobile unit hopes to play a critical role in screening and diagnosing cases at an early stage.
Dr Pragnya Shyam, Medical Director at UC Breast Foundation, stressed the value of early intervention.
He said, “The earlier we can diagnose breast cancer, the better the chances of survival. This mobile unit will allow women in underserved areas to be proactive about their health, without the burden of traveling long distances or bearing high costs.”
By combining advanced technology with community outreach, the initiative aims to reach a wider population and significantly impact the early detection and treatment of cancer.
