AI Overview will feature knowledge panels on common health topics like flu or the common cold to further support health-related searches, providing direct access to reputable sources.
In 2024, Google introduced its AI Overview feature in Google Search, simplifying complex queries with concise, AI-generated responses.
Now, Google is enhancing this feature for medical and health-related searches, offering users reliable information from trusted healthcare sources.
Additionally, a new feature called ‘What People Suggest’ will aggregate relevant online discussions and expert insights into easy-to-understand themes.
For example, a user searching for arthritis-friendly exercises will receive grouped suggestions based on real-life discussions. However, Google will include disclaimers advising users to consult medical professionals before attempting any suggested activities.
To further support health-related searches, AI Overview will feature knowledge panels on common health topics like flu or the common cold, providing direct access to reputable sources.
Currently, these enhancements are available only on mobile devices in the US, but Google plans to expand to more international languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
In a parallel development, Google is launching a Medical Record API for Android developers. This API will allow users to store and manage health records within the Health Connect feature on Android devices.
This update enables individuals to access, add, and organize medical data, including allergies, medications, immunizations, and lab results, in the FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) format.
With these additions, Health Connect now supports over 50 health data types across activity, sleep, nutrition, vitals, and medical records, ensuring a more seamless integration between personal health tracking and medical records from healthcare providers.
Stay tuned for more such updates on Digital Health News.
