Google has partnered with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in key sectors, particularly healthcare and sustainability. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to integrate AI-driven solutions, promote skill development, and strengthen the local startup ecosystem.
The MoU was exchanged in Amaravati in the presence of Nara Lokesh, Minister of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications and Human Resources Development, Andhra Pradesh; Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Country Managing Director of Google Cloud India; and S Suresh Kumar, Secretary of Real Time Governance Society, Andhra Pradesh.
The collaboration aims to leverage AI to improve healthcare access and patient outcomes in Andhra Pradesh. Google will provide access to its Health AI imaging models through its partners and explore the application of generative AI in healthcare via large language models (LLMs). It will also support research initiatives through its Health AI Developer Foundations (HAI-DEF).
“This collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Government is another step in our commitment to fostering an inclusive and sustainable digital future for India,” said Bikram Singh Bedi. “We're excited to combine Google's AI expertise with the state's vision to cultivate an AI-ready workforce, support local startups, and address areas like healthcare and sustainability. We look forward to unlocking the transformative potential of AI to improve lives and promote development across the state.”
In addition to healthcare, AI solutions will be applied to tackle challenges in air quality management, urban planning, and disaster preparedness under sustainability initiatives.
As part of the partnership, Google will work with the state government to upskill citizens and government agencies in areas like cybersecurity, data analytics, and generative AI. Training will include Google Cloud Certifications and Skill Badges, along with resources for educators to enhance computer science education.
The collaboration also extends to boosting the state’s startup ecosystem. AI-focused startups will receive mentorship, technical training, and cloud credits. Programmes like Google for Startups Accelerator will be made available to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
The MoU outlines several pilot projects to demonstrate the practical applications of AI. These include agriculture optimization, traffic management, website modernization, and grievance redressal systems.
Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, said, “We are pleased to partner with Google to integrate AI solutions and accelerate Andhra Pradesh's growth. This collaboration aligns with our vision of using technology for the betterment of our citizens. We aim to empower every individual and business by harnessing the power of AI, building a thriving environment for innovation and growth across the state.”
