The facility launch aims to provide comprehensive BMT services tailored for children, offering advanced treatment options for pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions.
In a move to address the increasing demand for specialized pediatric care, Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai has expanded its Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) program. The hospital now offers dedicated services specifically for pediatric patients.
This development aims to provide comprehensive BMT services tailored for children, offering advanced treatment options for pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions.
The latest pediatric BMT services enhance the hospital’s existing adult BMT expertise, aligning with its goal to deliver quality healthcare across all age demographics.
Dr Ruchira Misra, a distinguished pediatric hematologist-oncologist and transplant physician will spearhead this new program.
"We are thrilled to introduce Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant services at Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai," said Misra.
Pediatric BMTs offer a chance of cure for several diseases such as relapsed blood cancers, neuroblastomas, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, and many more conditions.
‘’However, these children require very specialized care during their treatment. Gleneagles Hospital is already renowned for its high standards of care," Dr Mishra added.
Recently, Gleneagles Hospital in Parel, Mumbai, unveiled a state-of-the-art Bi-Plane Cath Lab, integrating AI to elevate cardiac care standards.
The advanced Cath Lab offers faster diagnosis, reduced radiation exposure, and improved treatment outcomes, aiming to address the growing cardiac concerns prevalent among the population.
Sharing thoughts, Dr Vivek Talaulikar, COO, Gleneagles Healthcare India, said, "This expansion represents a pivotal moment for Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai as we broaden our scope to meet the unique healthcare needs of pediatric patients. We are dedicated to providing specialized care and are confident that our pediatric BMT program will make a positive difference in the lives of many families.”
Founded in 2009, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals is part of the Gleneagles Global Hospitals Group, which was founded by Dr K Ravindranath in 1999 with a focus on complex multi-organ transplantation.
The hospital has over 500 beds and is one of the largest of its kind in Bengaluru. It consists of 14 operation theaters, claims to have the most advanced imaging facilities, and one of the largest liver ICUs in the country. It caters to several key specialties including oncology, neurosurgery, liver diseases, and various others.
Last year, Gleneagles Hospital, Kengeri in Bengaluru unveiled RecoSMA (Reconstruction by Spatially Modulated Ablation) laser technology. This advanced technology is set to transform patient care by offering precise, non-invasive solutions for rapid wound healing and tissue repair.
Reportedly, the RecoSMA is cost-effective compared to certain surgical procedures and could potentially lead to savings in the long run by reducing the need for more expensive surgical procedures.
With this initiative, Gleneagles aims to reshape wound healing and tissue repair by disturbing cell membranes, nucleus, and cytoplasm, eliminating the need for high-temperature treatments.
Bengaluru’s BGS Gleneagles Hospital also launched its Integrative Medicine and Research Department (IMRD).
With this launch, it said it became the first hospital in the IHH India Network to provide integrative medicine, extending whole-person care to patients across various disciplines, including oncology, obstetrics, pulmonology, neurology, cardiology, and gastroenterology.
