Gleneagles Hospital, Kengeri in Bengaluru has unveiled RecoSMA (Reconstruction by Spatially Modulated Ablation) laser technology. This advanced technology is set to transform patient care by offering precise, non-invasive solutions for rapid wound healing and tissue repair.

Reportedly, the RecoSMA is cost-effective compared to certain surgical procedures and could potentially lead to savings in the long run by reducing the need for more expensive surgical procedures. For patients, the average cost of a RecoSMA laser treatment is around $481

RecoSMA Laser minimises damage to the skin or wound surface, which lowers the risk of complications. It offers a range of treatments for various skin conditions, including varicose veins, acne scars, burn scars, surgery scars, and psoriasis, consolidating multiple treatment options in a single platform.

With this initiative, Gleneagles aims to reshape wound healing and tissue repair by disturbing cell membranes, nucleus, and cytoplasm, eliminating the need for high-temperature treatments.

Further, the newly launched technology promotes the growth of new cells, stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis, and rejuvenates tissue without inducing fibrous tissue growth, preserving natural skin properties and pigment.

Moreover, patients can now access non-invasive treatments without surgical incisions, anaesthesia, or hospital admissions thus reducing discomfort and surgical risks.

Additionally, short treatment sessions accommodate busy schedules, minimising time commitments. Patients also report minimal discomfort during RecoSMA treatments, as they do not involve a heat sensation.

Sharing her views, Dr Smitha Thamaiah, cluster medical director, Gleneagles Hospitals, said, "RecoSMA is a revolutionary new method to repair damaged human tissue. Can be used for various skin issues, cosmetic corrections, non-closing wounds and keloids, and many more benefits. Its non-invasive day care procedure, without anaesthesia, has quick recovery and healing with little or no discomfort."

Founded in 1999, by Dr K Ravindranath, the hospital was formerly known as Global Hospitals Group. It was inaugurated with a focus on complex multi-organ transplantation. With over 500 beds, the hospital is currently one of the largest of its kind in Bengaluru and consists of 14 operation theatres, advanced imaging facilities and a modern Transplant ICU.

The hospital caters to several key specialities including oncology, neurosurgery, liver diseases and various others. Going forward, the hospitals aim for superior clinical, service, and operational outcomes.

Earlier, in June 2022, the hospital launched the Advanced Emergency & Trauma Centre. This advanced facility is equipped with the latest medical equipment and increased bed capacity. The centre was designed to provide immediate and comprehensive medical care to patients with acute illnesses or injuries.

In another development, Apollo Hospitals launched the latest generation ophthalmology laser machine to offer advanced eye procedures. The latest technology offers a wide range of advanced eye procedures including cataract surgery, and customised laser refractive surgery, among others.
