Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Kengeri, has introduced 5G-enabled ambulance service in partnership with Medulance.
This new initiative aims to transform emergency medical response through enhanced technology and provide superior patient care.
The first phase of the rollout includes five ambulances equipped with 5G technology to serve the areas immediately surrounding the hospital. The second phase will introduce five additional ambulances, extending the service to nearby districts, thus bolstering emergency response capabilities across a broader region.
Commenting on the initiative, Anurag Yadav, CEO of Gleneagles Healthcare India, said, "We are glad to introduce the first 5G-enabled ambulance service in South India. This initiative is a key component of our renewed vision, following our rebranding in March 2024, to provide the highest level of care to our patients."
The ambulances, developed in partnership with Medulance and powered by Reliance Jio’s 5G network, feature real-time, two-way audio and video communication.
They are equipped with cameras and smart devices capable of transmitting high-definition footage alongside advanced life support (ALS) systems for critical medical interventions.
This technology allows real-time health data streaming to remote doctors and transmitting vital signs to emergency room dashboards.
Additionally, the ambulances are equipped with location tracking for efficient dispatch and navigation and remote monitoring capabilities to guide paramedics during transit.
Sharing insights, Pranav Bajaj, cofounder and CEO of Medulance, said, "Today, we mark a significant milestone in emergency medical response. Our 5G-enabled ambulances, in partnership with Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Kengeri, will set a new standard for patient care. With advanced technology, we are bridging the gap between emergency and treatment, ensuring timely and informed care. This innovation is a testament to our commitment to saving lives and shaping the future of healthcare."
The integration of 5G technology significantly reduces response times, with ambulances able to reach patients in less than four minutes in corporate settings. This rapid response enables immediate clinical assessments and medical interventions en route, supported by remote assistance from doctors.
Reportedly, the use of the 'Golden Hour' and 'Platinum 10 Minutes' – critical periods in emergency medical care – greatly improves survival rates in cases such as heart attacks and strokes.
Furthermore, the service enhances healthcare access in rural and remote areas and ensures seamless data sharing with hospitals to prepare for incoming patients.
In a similar development, to address the increasing demand for specialized pediatric care, Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai expanded its Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) program. The hospital now offers dedicated services specifically for pediatric patients.
This development aims to provide comprehensive BMT services tailored for children, offering advanced treatment options for pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions.
The latest pediatric BMT services enhance the hospital’s existing adult BMT expertise, aligning with its goal to deliver quality healthcare across all age demographics.
