GE HealthCare emphasized its use of the lowest radiation dose across all breast thicknesses, making it a safer option compared to other leading scanners on the market.

GE HealthCare has launched the Pristina Via mammography system, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline imaging workflows and address the growing shortage of trained radiologic technologists.

Unveiled at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting in Chicago, the system builds on the company’s previous Senographe Pristina platform, delivering faster and more efficient imaging cycles.

According to GE HealthCare, Pristina Via enables automated, zero-click image acquisition and eliminates the wait time between exposures. These advancements can double imaging speeds compared to existing mammography hardware.

"Technologists often face significant time pressures during their workday," said Pooja Pathak, global general manager for mammography. "Pristina Via is designed to alleviate this challenge by simplifying routine tasks."

The system features backward compatibility with existing data systems, allowing seamless integration and vendor-neutral scan comparisons.

GE HealthCare emphasized its use of the lowest radiation dose across all breast thicknesses, making it a safer option compared to other leading scanners on the market.

The launch comes amid a growing workforce crisis in radiology. The American Society of Radiologic Technologists recently reported an increase in job vacancy rates, from 6% in 2021 to 18% in 2024, while the demand for mammograms has remained steady.

AI in Women’s Health

Last month, GE HealthCare partnered with DeepHealth, a subsidiary of RadNet, to advance AI-driven imaging technologies with a focus on breast cancer screening and diagnostics.

This collaboration combines GE HealthCare's leading imaging systems with DeepHealth's AI health informatics to develop innovative solutions, including the SmartMammo system.

SmartMammo will seamlessly integrate with GE HealthCare's Senographe Pristina mammography system, aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy and streamline workflow efficiency in breast cancer screening.
