American medtech firm GE HealthCare has secured a grant of approximately more than $44 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The purpose of this grant is to facilitate the development of user-friendly, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted ultrasound imaging auto-assessment tools.

Furthermore, these tools will seek to assist healthcare professionals, including those without specialised ultrasound training or experience. These tools aim to furnish clinical decision information that supports more effective obstetric and lung screening ultrasound scans.

This advancement is particularly significant within the domains of maternal and fetal care, as well as pediatric lung health, with the objective of expanding access to low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) and a variety of healthcare settings.

Currently, Caption Health offers FDA-cleared Cardiac Guidance software. With the substantial backing of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant, Caption Health further will embark on the development of multiple lung ultrasound and obstetric algorithms. These algorithms will undergo rigorous clinical validation and regulatory submissions, marking a significant step forward in enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality.

Days back, GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic collaborated in healthcare research and product development to enhance the experience of patients and clinicians in the practice of radiology and the delivery of distinctive therapies.

In September only, the healthcare company partnered with Mass General Brigham to develop an AI algorithm aimed at increasing operational efficiency and productivity in healthcare.
