Fujifilm India has launched a new healthcare initiative, Care on Wheels, in Himachal Pradesh.
The program was rolled out in Mandi district on World Health Day and inaugurated by Dr (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Minister of Health and Welfare, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The initiative comprises a static healthcare center and a mobile medical van operating across 3,950 sq km of Mandi. The mobile unit is designed to provide diagnostic and consultation services at residents' doorsteps in remote areas.
The van is equipped to offer a range of diagnostic services, including general health check-ups, complete blood count (CBC) tests, tuberculosis (TB) screening, chest X-rays, COPD diagnosis, and 18+ blood tests. It also facilitates teleradiology and teleconsultation services to connect patients in rural locations with healthcare professionals.
To enable this, Fujifilm India has integrated two key medical devices into the mobile setup. The DRI-CHEM NX600, an automated clinical chemistry analyzer, will support quick delivery of blood test results. The FDR Xair, a portable X-ray unit, will provide on-the-spot imaging, particularly for respiratory conditions such as TB and COPD.
The mobile van is intended to operate throughout the Mandi district in its initial phase. The approach focuses on taking diagnostics directly to underserved populations, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for basic tests or consultations.
The integration of imaging and laboratory diagnostics within a mobile unit allows simultaneous screening for multiple health conditions, supporting early detection and intervention. Telemedicine will also allow patients to consult doctors remotely after undergoing the necessary tests.
According to the details shared at the launch, the initiative is designed to extend access to primary healthcare services in difficult-to-reach regions of Himachal Pradesh. The combination of clinical equipment and digital connectivity is expected to support the existing healthcare infrastructure in the area.
The deployment marks a targeted intervention in one of Himachal’s central districts, focusing on respiratory and non-communicable diseases. No disclosure has been made regarding the timeline of the current phase or plans for expansion beyond Mandi.
