Sharing thoughts, Dr Sawhney, said, "Movement disorders are chronic conditions that can present significant challenges for patients and their families."

Inaugurated by Dr Gurneet Singh Sawhney and Dr Vishal Beri, the facility director, the clinic's launch represents an important development in neurology care, particularly in Central Mumbai.

Dispelling Misconceptions & Raising Awareness

The clinic's comprehensive approach includes consultations with neurologists, medication therapy, botox injections, and potential surgical interventions including stereotactic lesioning, radiofrequency lesioning, and deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Dr Sawhney underlined the clinic's dedication to remaining at the forefront of technological and scientific advancements in the field, aiming to enhance patient outcomes through innovative treatments.

According to him, movement disorders are chronic conditions that can present significant challenges for patients and their families.

“While the number of diagnosed cases has been on the rise in the past few years, affecting approximately 60 to 100 individuals per million, it's crucial to remember that effective treatment options are available to help manage these conditions and improve quality of life for patients,” he added.

Additionally, Dr Beri highlighted the need for increased awareness about movement disorders to facilitate early diagnosis and timely intervention.

He emphasized the physical and emotional burden these disorders impose on patients and their families, outlining the clinic's commitment to integrating medical treatments with therapies to positively manage the conditions.

Expansion Plans & Investment in Healthcare Infrastructure

In addition to the clinic launch, Fortis Healthcare Ltd revealed plans to expand its bed capacity, aiming to add 600 beds to the existing 4, 500 operational beds by the end of the financial year.

Per reports, the company also intends to add 2,200 beds across its existing hospitals over the next three years.

Fortis Healthcare will invest approximately INR 600 Cr this year, with INR 400 Cr allocated to growth capex for constructing new buildings and infrastructure, and INR 200 Cr for replacement and maintenance expenses, as revealed by a senior company executive.

In a similar development, Fortis Malar Hospitals Ltd announced the sale of Malar Hospital at Gandhi Nagar in Chennai to MGM Healthcare for INR 128 Cr.

The transaction includes the divestment of business operations related to Malar Hospital, including the land and building, by two wholly owned subsidiaries of Fortis Healthcare Ltd.

The sale, expected to be completed by the end of January, follows the company's decision to divest its business due to certain legacy issues. Fortis Malar Hospitals emphasized that the divestment was a viable and prudent option for its stakeholders, considering the challenges faced by the facility.
