Emirates, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has unveiled its collaboration with the French telehealth firm Parsys Telemedicine to offer passengers inflight virtual medical services.
Emirates has allocated over $2.4 million towards developing this system in collaboration with Parsys, a French telemedicine solutions provider.
Already operational on numerous flights, the telemedicine stations will be introduced on 300 aircraft over the next few years. This initiative aims to provide passengers prompt and efficient medical care during flights.
These telemedicine stations feature technologies, including high-definition video conferencing, secure data sharing, remote health assessments, and a 12-Leads Telecardia ECG.
The kit includes tools such as a pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor, thermometer, glucometer, and ECG, designed to address medical emergencies and allow the cabin crew to take swift and informed action.
The cabin crew can collect vital health data and transmit it to Emirates' Ground Medical Support, an expert medical team based in Emirates Group Headquarters in Dubai and accessible 24/7. In some cases, ground-based medical professionals can remotely assess injuries or health issues visually.
In 2023, Delta Air Lines joined forces with Arizona-based MedAire, which offers MedLink services. MedLink allowed flight attendants to establish direct access to a team of doctors via an app on Delta SkyPro mobile devices.
Additionally, Air New Zealand collaborated with Christchurch-based virtual reality and cognitive behavioral therapy company oVRcome to deliver exposure therapy for passengers who fear flying. This program uses the oVRcome VR headset and a smartphone to access therapy tools like audio lessons and psychological exercises to help passengers manage airport navigation, boarding, turbulence, and landing.
