This integration, now available via eLabNext’s eLabMarketplace add-on library, aims to streamline and improve the efficiency of laboratory sample tracking and management processes.

eLabNext, a part of the Eppendorf Group, has enhanced its laboratory operations by integrating the Thermo Scientific VisionMate HSX High-Speed Barcode Reader into its Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).

This integration, now available via eLabNext’s eLabMarketplace add-on library, aims to streamline and improve the efficiency of laboratory sample tracking and management processes.

The VisionMate HSX High-Speed Barcode Reader is designed to enhance the accuracy and speed of sample tracking, addressing a critical need in large-scale laboratory environments, such as biobanks.

By incorporating this technology, eLabNext hopes to reduce identification errors and ensure more reliable sample processing workflows.

Enhanced Functionality for Lab Environments

The VisionMate HSX High-Speed Barcode Reader brings several advanced features to eLabNext’s platform, making it an essential tool for laboratories that require precise and efficient sample management.

The device can decode 2D tube barcodes in under a second and supports Matrix and Nunc tubes across various formats—24, 48, 96, and 384 racks.

Additionally, it can simultaneously read 1D rack barcodes, allowing for seamless integration into existing laboratory workflows.

The reader's design also ensures flexibility and ease of use. Sample racks can be placed in any orientation, with accurate data display and export capabilities.

The VisionMate HSX is also built to withstand challenging environments, being cleanroom-compatible, dust- and water-tight, and resistant to frost build-up, making it a robust solution for laboratories.

Dave Hunter, global product manager of storage equipment at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said, “In life science laboratories, particularly for large-scale facilities, such as biobanks, where errors in sample identification can make large collections of samples useless. The VisionMate™ HSX High-Speed Barcode Reader and its integration with ELNs and LIMS, such as the eLabNext platform, allows life science teams to avoid errors, scale capacity, and move towards more automated operations.”

Addressing Common Laboratory Challenges

Integrating the VisionMate HSX with eLabNext’s digital solutions directly responds to the challenges laboratories face in sample tracking and management.

Zareh Zurabyan, head of eLabNext, Americas, said, “Compatibility with the Thermo Scientific™ VisionMate™ HSX High-Speed Barcode Reader provides our users an off-the-shelf solution to their sample management challenges. Partnership with a life science leader like Thermo Fisher Scientific will provide the broader scientific community with a trusted and seamless workflow management solution.”

By integrating with the VisionMate HSX, eLabNext continues its efforts to enhance laboratory operations through digitalization.

This development is particularly relevant for healthcare-related laboratories requiring stringent controls and reliable systems to handle large samples.
