DBT will provide technical guidance and facilitate critical partnerships, while Assam will spearhead the initiative by setting up a dedicated State BioE3 Cell and developing an action plan tailored for the region.
In a significant move towards sustainable biotechnology, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Government of Assam have signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding under the BioE3 Policy.
This landmark collaboration, the first of its kind under the BioE3 framework, seeks to establish a state-of-the-art robotic biomanufacturing ecosystem in Assam.
The BioE3 Policy, which received Union Cabinet approval on August 24, 2024, envisions India as a frontrunner in bio-based innovations, promoting areas such as healthcare, bio-based chemicals, climate-resilient agriculture, and precision biotherapeutics.
As part of this agreement, the DBT will provide technical guidance and facilitate critical partnerships, while Assam will spearhead the initiative by setting up a dedicated State BioE3 Cell and developing an action plan tailored for the region.
At the MoU signing ceremony in New Delhi, DBT Secretary Dr Rajesh S. Gokhale highlighted that the BioE3 Policy is designed to foster sustainable growth, create jobs, and enhance environmental stewardship. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary of Assam, Dr Ravi Kota, confirmed that the Assam Cabinet has already green-lighted the BioE3 Action Plan.
With this collaboration, Assam is poised to generate new employment opportunities, drive economic growth, and champion environmental sustainability in the burgeoning biotechnology sector.
As India aims to position itself as a global leader in biotechnology, Assam’s new initiative marks a transformative step forward in harnessing the power of bio-based innovations.
