Moreover, CM Sukhu noted that medical technology in hospitals reduces the need for residents to seek advanced medical care outside the state.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has formally requested the Union health and family welfare minister JP Nadda’s support for establishing a bulk drug park in the state.

A bulk drug park is a specialized industrial zone designed to manufacture bulk drugs, also known as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

These parks aim to reduce the cost of manufacturing bulk drugs by providing advanced infrastructure and facilities, thereby making the production process efficient and cost-effective.

During their meeting in New Delhi, CM Sukhu emphasized the bulk drug park's potential to significantly boost the state’s economic development and create substantial local employment opportunities.

Moreover, CM Sukhu noted that medical technology in hospitals reduces the need for residents to seek advanced medical care outside the state.

He urged the Center to provide additional financial assistance for this crucial project.

Sukhu also urged funds allocation to complete the works of Nahan, Chamba, and Hamirpur medical colleges.

He highlighted the importance of high-quality medical education in the state and sought support for nursing graduates to secure international job placements.

The Union Minister assured of all possible assistance to the state from the Center.

Himachal Pradesh’s Bulk Drug Park

Himachal Pradesh is one of the states selected to develop a bulk drug park. The park in Una district is expected to attract investments of around INR 10,000 Cr and create over 20,000 jobs.

This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities of Himachal Pradesh, making it a prominent hub for drug production in India.

In a similar development, the Industries Department of Himachal Pradesh secured a loan of INR 250 Cr from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to expedite the construction of the INR 350 Cr medical device park in Nalagarh,

The Union Government had already allocated INR 100 Cr as grant-in-aid for the project, emphasizing the need to establish various scientific facilities.

Noteworthy among the nation's approved medical device parks, this initiative aligns with similar projects in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh, with the Industries Department designated as the state implementing agency for the endeavor.

In another development, last month, the government of Himachal Pradesh initiated talks with Dubai-based United Parcel Service (UPS), one of the leading logistics companies, to have drone delivery of essential medicines and vaccines in the wake of adverse natural calamities in the region.

UPS proposed an efficient supply of medicines and vaccines to the remote corners of the state. It also offered essential medicines and vaccines to the Himachal Pradesh government at no cost.
