Cleveland Clinic has announced the deployment of Ambience's AI-powered platform to streamline clinical documentation, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), and point-of-care coding across its ambulatory practices in the United States.
Starting later this month, Cleveland Clinic clinicians will use AI-driven documentation software that automatically generates detailed medical notes from patient encounters.
These AI-generated notes will be reviewed and approved by providers before being uploaded to patients' electronic medical records.
Additionally, the system will create customized after-visit summaries for patients, families, and caregivers, enhancing communication and continuity of care.
The decision to implement Ambience's AI platform follows a year-long pilot program conducted throughout 2024.
The AI technology was extensively tested across 80+ specialties and subspecialties to ensure its effectiveness in diverse clinical settings.
The rollout will take place in phases over the coming months, allowing for ongoing evaluation and seamless integration into Cleveland Clinic's ambulatory practices.
Cleveland Clinic emphasizes that the AI tool is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it serves as an administrative support system, allowing healthcare providers to focus more on patient engagement and care quality.
Patients will be notified before the AI tool is used during their visits and will have the option to opt out if they prefer. This approach ensures transparency and respects patient preferences.
"The promise of AI in healthcare is that it will enable us to care for patients with a higher level of safety and quality," said Rohit Chandra, Ph.D., Chief Digital Officer, Cleveland Clinic.
"Our implementation of ambient AI technology delivers on that promise by helping providers fully engage with patients while reducing administrative burdens."
