The FibroScan technology claims to deliver rapid, reproducible results in just minutes, making it an essential tool in preventive healthcare.

City Imaging & Clinical Labs, a New Delhi-based diagnostic chain, has introduced FibroScan, a non-invasive tool designed to assess liver health.

The launch comes in response to the Indian government’s call for proactive measures to combat the rising burden of liver diseases, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

The initiative aligns with the national focus on early detection and prevention of liver conditions, as NAFLD becomes a growing health concern in India.

Liver diseases are one of the leading causes of death in India, contributing to around 20% of all ailments, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Liver cancer alone claims about 2,000 lives annually, highlighting the urgent need for accessible and effective diagnostic tools.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh recently emphasized the growing prevalence of NAFLD, stating, “Every third Indian has fatty liver, which often predates Type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders.” Dr Singh, a diabetologist, called for India-specific healthcare interventions to address the country’s unique metabolic and genetic profile.

About FibroScan

City Imaging’s newly launched FibroScan device will be available at its Dwarka branch.

The technology offers Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP) and liver stiffness measurements, which are essential for the early detection of liver conditions such as NAFLD and alcoholic liver disease (ALD).

These conditions, if left undiagnosed, can progress to more serious health issues, including cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Dr Aakaar Kapoor, Founder and Partner of City Imaging & Clinical Labs LLP, emphasized the importance of this diagnostic advancement.

“The burden of liver diseases in India is staggering, and with FibroScan, we aim to offer a solution that is affordable, accurate, and accessible to everyone,” said Dr Kapoor.

He explained that FibroScan provides a painless, non-invasive alternative to traditional methods such as liver biopsies, offering immediate results and reducing patient discomfort.

NAFLD & ALD on the Rise in India

The rise of NAFLD in India is linked to changes in diet, increasingly sedentary lifestyles, and the growing prevalence of metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes.

Unlike in Western countries, where NAFLD is primarily associated with obesity, around 20% of non-obese individuals in India are affected by the condition.

Without early diagnosis and intervention, NAFLD can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer. ALD, which follows a similar progression from fatty liver to cirrhosis, remains another significant concern in India.

Dr Kapoor stressed the importance of early detection, stating, “With the rising incidence of NAFLD and ALD, it is essential to have tools like FibroScan that provide accurate and timely diagnosis. We are committed to offering our patients the best diagnostic technologies to help them take control of their liver health early.”

Advancing Preventive Healthcare

The FibroScan technology claims to deliver rapid, reproducible results in just minutes, making it an essential tool in preventive healthcare.

It eliminates the need for invasive procedures, such as liver biopsies, and ensures accessibility for a broad range of patients, including those with higher body mass, thanks to its XL probe for accurate diagnostics.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted the need for India-specific healthcare solutions, emphasizing that a large portion of the population is affected by metabolic disorders.

“We need India-specific interventions as our phenotype is different,” he said, stressing the importance of tailored healthcare solutions for the country’s unique challenges.

Acquired for INR 14 Cr, they will collaborate with the 'Sadak Surakhya Force' for timely emergency aid and are stocked with lifesaving drugs and modern equipment.
