In a significant collaboration College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and care.ai, a prominent healthcare AI technology startup, have joined forces to pioneer the creation of the "Smart Hospital Maturity Model."
The partnership is aimed at navigating the complexities of healthcare technology.
This model intends to provide structure and clarity in an evolving healthcare landscape increasingly driven by technological innovation.
The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) is an association of healthcare IT leaders including chief information officers (CIOs), chief medical information officers (CMIOs), chief nursing information officers (CNIOs), chief innovation officers (CIOs), chief digital officers (CDOs).
The organisation has more than 5,000 members in 56 countries and over 180 healthcare IT business partners and professional services firms.
Commenting on the initiative, Chakri Toleti, Founder and CEO of care.ai. said, “care.ai was founded in 2018 with the pioneering vision of creating a smart care facility platform. Now, years later, the need for smart hospitals and the availability of impactful technology has never been greater.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, he said the collaboration will maximise the impact and value of the model for the industry.
Healthcare institutions globally are grappling with the rapid integration of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), ambient sensing, virtual care, and patient monitoring,
Thus, the necessity for a comprehensive framework to assess and guide their progress has become paramount.
The Smart Hospital Maturity Model aims to fulfil this need by offering a systematic approach to evaluate hospitals' advancements in comprehending, adopting, and optimizing enabling technologies.
By delineating the attributes of a "Smart Hospital," this model empowers healthcare facilities to streamline and expedite digital transformation with confidence and lucidity.
According to care.ai, the model delineates a clear roadmap for hospitals, explaining their current standing in the digital transformation journey and charting a course for future advancements.
Participating facilities will receive comparative analyses, enabling them to benchmark their progress against industry standards and best practices.
Under the model, an advisory panel of health system industry experts will be created that include CHIME members and C-suite leaders from various healthcare organisations.
The initiative will be led by Steve Lieber, former Executive Vice President and Chief Analytics Officer at CHIME.
Lieber has previously played a key role in the growth of Digital Health Most Wired Program and launched CHIME’s Digital Health Analytics Program.
He also served as the CEO of HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), where he provided leadership to develop the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), as per the statement.
Leveraging their collective expertise, the panel will shape the assessment criteria, questionnaires, and data measurement methods for the Smart Hospital Maturity Model.
Apart from this, the model will also offer strategic insights for future endeavours to facilitate the identification of improvement areas and effective prioritisation of efforts, care.ai said in a statement.
The industry panel assembled for the development of the Smart Hospital Maturity Model boasts an impressive array of healthcare luminaries
Currently, there are 39 members in the industry panel from various healthcare systems across the US.
