With the launch of ERAdvisor, the partnership seeks to improve clarity and predictability in pediatric emergency visits at Children’s Hospital LA.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) has joined hands with a Switzerland-based, AI-driven digital health company, Vital to integrate an AI-driven tool named ERAdvisor to enhance patient experience.

This AI tool seeks to enhance the patient-family experience with clarity and predictability in pediatric emergency visits.

Further, the collaboration aims to bridge the communication gap by providing clear and understandable information regarding clinical procedures and wait times using the newly launched ERAdvisor App. It also provides real-time updates on wait times, labs and imaging results, progress toward discharge, and patient education.

How Does an ERAdvisor Work?

ERAdvisor functions by sending families a text message upon their registration at the emergency room, prompting them to access a secure web-based interface. Through this interface, families receive real-time notifications and updates on their child's status, department location, lab and imaging results, and any changes in treatment.

Moreover, families can access Vital's ERAdvisor via CHLA’s existing MyVisit portal without registering or downloading any additional apps. Using generative AI and machine learning, ERAdvisor translates clinical notes, imaging, lab results, and other medical data into language comprehensible at a 5th-grade reading level.

Additionally, it offers patient education, real-time surveys, service requests, and follow-up scheduling. Currently, ERAdvisor is operational in 28 health systems and over 100 hospitals across 19 states.

Sharing thoughts, Omkar Kulkarni, VP & chief digital and transformation officer, CHLA, said, “We value the implementation of personalized, innovative digital tools to enhance the patient family experience”.

Emphasizing the importance of communication, Kulkarni noted that parents and caregivers can sometimes be anxious when their children are in the emergency department, but transparent communication and real-time updates can help alleviate some of that anxiety.

Vital's Recent Digital Health Initiatives

In August, Vital launched an AI-powered Doctor-to-Patient Translator, a solution aimed at simplifying complex medical terminology for patients. Using advanced large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP), the AI translator converts doctor's notes, radiologist reads, discharge summaries, and other medical information into easily understandable language, making it accessible to patients at a 5th-grade reading level. This initiative aimed to improve patient comprehension of their healthcare data.

In June, the Switzerland-based digital health company unveiled the industry's first AI-powered video education feature, designed to provide precise education to patients in the emergency department and inpatient settings.

According to the company, Vital's AI-powered video education feature automatically delivers educational videos tailored to patients' specific conditions or medical procedures, adapting in real-time to changes in their care.

Powered by sophisticated algorithms, the technology selects the most relevant and comprehensive content for each patient by analyzing doctors' and nurses' notes alongside structured orders and procedural codes.

Founded in 2019 by Aaron Patzer and emergency medicine physician Dr Justin Schrager,

Vital aims to enhance the healthcare industry, and patient care through digital and AI-driven software solutions. Recently, it secured $24.7 million in Series B funding, bringing its total funding to over $40 million.

Vital's platform utilizes AI and natural language processing (NLP) to enhance communication among healthcare providers, health systems, and patients. Its flagship products, ERAdvisor and CareAdvisor, streamline patient interactions in the emergency department and inpatient care settings, respectively with partnerships with over 40 new hospital clients and expansion into the inpatient setting.
