Japan-based Canon has planned to expand its healthcare business in India. The imaging technology leader revealed its strategy during a meeting in Mumbai attended by essential global leadership.

Sharing insights, Koh Yamada, president of Canon Medical Systems India, said, "We recognize the rising incidence of lifestyle diseases like cardiovascular issues, cancer, and diabetes. We aim to provide unique technologies to support medical professionals in better diagnosing and treating these conditions.”

Strategic Focus on Medical Innovations

Canon Medical Systems India, a Canon Medical Systems Corporation subsidiary, plans to offer advanced diagnostic imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions. 

Yamada added that Canon Medical Systems aims to deliver high-quality services in India, focusing on leveraging AI in diagnostic imaging to improve patient outcomes. The company seeks to bring solutions to the healthcare sector, optimizing patient care through advanced technology.

Canon’s expansion into the healthcare sector is part of its vision to make India a leading market by 2035, driving Canon Asia to become the top sales region globally. 

Further, the company aims to integrate its medical business with its other core segments, enhancing service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Commenting on the same, Kazunori Iwamoto, advisory director of Canon, highlighted Canon's plans for the semiconductor industry, which complements its healthcare strategy. 

"We aim to introduce our advanced skillsets and knowledge to India, leveraging our extensive history in the exposure equipment business. This includes our Nanoimprint lithography equipment, which offers a more efficient and eco-friendly solution than conventional tools," he added.

In a previous development, Canon and Cleveland Clinic announced a strategic research partnership to develop innovative imaging and healthcare IT technologies to improve diagnosis, care, and patient outcomes. 

The collaboration established a comprehensive imaging research center in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood, near Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. 

Furthermore, clinician-scientists, researchers, and engineers collaborated on this initiative to pioneer state-of-the-art imaging technologies in cardiology, neurology, and musculoskeletal medicine.
