The Cabinet has approved budgetary support in the 15th Finance Commission Cycle to run CAPFIMS as a campus of AIIMS, New Delhi.
This funding will cover various aspects, including the procurement of medical equipment, furniture, and the recurring costs associated with operations and maintenance of the campus.
Additionally, a portion of the hospital beds on the campus will be earmarked for providing healthcare services to all CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) beneficiaries.
The Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a 970-bed referral and research hospital, a 500-bed general hospital, a 300-bed super-specialty hospital, and 170 ICU/critical care beds.
Established at a cost of approximately INR 2,091 Cr, the institute also houses a medical college (offering 100 seats), a college of nursing (with 60 seats), and a school of paramedics (providing 300 seats) in Maidangarhi, South Delhi. These institutions will offer postgraduate and PG diploma courses (60 seats) and postdoctoral courses (DM & McH-10 seats).
Moreover, it will generate employment opportunities, with 4354 posts being created for the operationalization of the campus.
The AIIMS-CAPFIMS Campus aims to provide super-specialty and tertiary healthcare facilities, including medical treatment, nursing care, and paramedical training.
It is expected to cater to the special needs of CAPF beneficiaries as an integrated solution to all the tertiary health services, including the trauma center, artificial limb center, mental health counseling center, and physical rehabilitation center.
The collaboration is expected to bolster the healthcare infrastructure in the country and provide medical graduates and specialists with the opportunity to serve in the medical cadre of CAPFs.
In another development, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled eight new facilities equipped with advanced technologies and modern amenities at AIIMS New Delhi.
The expansion seeks to address the evolving healthcare needs of a growing population and to reinforce AIIMS New Delhi's position as a global leader in medical innovation.
Recently, AIIMS Delhi launched free rapid cardiac service for thalassemia patients. This service, which assesses the amount of iron deposition in the cardiac muscle, can be completed in just eight minutes, transforming how thalassemia patients are screened and monitored.
Founded in 1956, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi was established by the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.
It operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As an Institute of National Importance, AIIMS Delhi aims to provide high-quality medical education and healthcare services. It also provides various healthcare services, including diagnostic tests and treatments.
