This strategic partnership seeks to leverage the power of AI to enhance Nanoflex Robotics' advanced magnetic robotic navigation system making it the world's first system capable of facilitating remote thrombectomy. This advancement aims to transform stroke treatment methods and enhance patient outcomes.

British medtech player Brainomix and Switzerland-based Nanoflex Robotics have collaborated to create an AI robotic platform for stroke treatment.

This move comes in light of the UK-Switzerland bilateral collaborative R&D program that seeks to develop an AI-enabled stroke diagnosis and treatment platform.

Both the companies were awarded £400,000 ($420,418) and CHF 400,000 ($443,700), respectively, to co-develop an AI-assisted magnetic navigation system for stroke-related robotic surgical tools.

Reportedly, several investing agencies including Innovate UK, the innovation agency in the United Kingdom, and Innosuisse, Switzerland's Innovation Agency, funded the collaboration.

This strategic partnership seeks to leverage the power of AI to enhance Nanoflex Robotics' advanced magnetic robotic navigation system making it the world's first system capable of facilitating remote thrombectomy. This advancement aims to transform stroke treatment methods and enhance patient outcomes.

Additionally, the project will utilise Brainomix's AI-enabled diagnostic imaging capabilities and Nanoflex Robotics' precise magnetic navigation technology to create an assisted-navigation feature for interventional devices, such as catheters, as it moves through the vascular network.

Moreover, Nanoflex's tech will simplify and shorten procedure time while reducing risks associated with assessing the brain for interventional stroke treatment.

Through this partnership, set to commence in 2024, the two companies will integrate their technologies to develop an AI-assisted navigation tool for devices such as catheters as they traverse the vascular system.

Sharing his views, Dr George Harston, chief medical and innovation officer at Brainomix, said, "The project aims to leverage the power of artificial intelligence to enhance Nanoflex Robotics' cutting-edge magnetic robotic navigation system to be the first system worldwide to enable remote thrombectomy, thus transforming stroke treatment options and helping improve outcomes for patients."

Founded in 2021, Nanoflex is a medical robotics company focusing on the treatment of ischemic stroke. It aims to advance medical robotic interventions for the treatment of ischemic stroke. Recently, the company developed a soft robotics system that inserts guidewires and catheters into the brain.

While the UK-based Brainomix offers AI-powered imaging biomarkers to improve both diagnosis and treatment decisions in stroke, cancer, and lung fibrosis cases.  The company's e-Stroke platform is the world's most comprehensive stroke imaging solution, widely adopted across multiple healthcare systems worldwide.

Earlier this year, Brainomix received FDA clearance for its AI-enabled stroke software Brainomix 360 e-ASPECTS, which is used in stroke patients to measure the extent of early ischemic changes or a reduction or restriction of blood flow in the brain.

In a similar development, healthtech startup Taurean Surgical secured pre-seed funding to expand access to robotic surgery. This funding was utilised in leveraging advanced medical technology and  AI to bridge the gap between surgical solutions and underdeveloped regions.
