The newly inaugurated department adopts a novel approach to healthcare by blending traditional medical interventions with complementary therapies, including Naturopathy, Yoga, Reiki, Acupuncture, Psychotherapy, Medical Nutrition and more, aiming to achieve the highest level of health and holistic healing.

In a significant development, Bengaluru’s BGS Gleneagles Hospital has launched its Integrative Medicine and Research Department (IMRD).

The newly inaugurated department blends traditional medical interventions with complementary therapies, including Naturopathy, Yoga, Reiki, Acupuncture, Psychotherapy, Medical Nutrition among others.

With this launch, it said it became the first hospital in the IHH India Network to provide Integrative Medicine, extending whole-person care to patients across various disciplines, including Oncology, Obstetrics, Pulmonology, Neurology, Cardiology, and Gastroenterology.

Further, this department seeks to offer patient-centred healthcare, with a primary focus on enhancing patient well-being and overall quality of life with the use of integrative medicine.

As of now, they have inaugurated Phase 1 featuring Yoga Therapies, Reiki, Medical Nutrition, and Psychotherapy. However, they plan to unveil Phase 2, introducing Naturopathy, Acupuncture, and Acupressure to further enhance their services by 2024.

Speaking at the occasion, Biju Nair, Cluster COO Gleneagles Hospitals, Bengaluru said, "We are thrilled to be at the forefront of this global movement. While globally recognized institutions have already adopted Integrative Medicine to emphasize its importance, our department further solidifies our commitment to providing a comprehensive healthcare experience that caters to each patient's unique needs."

Integrative medicine is a patient-focused, whole-person medical practice that combines therapies that are both evidence-based and experience-based. Moreover, it is a combination of an array of disciplines, including alternative and conventional Western medical therapies, to provide safe, effective health care.

Furthermore, the integrative medicine approach addresses the immediate health needs of the patients as well as the other factors that influence their long-term health and well-being.

Founded in 2009, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals is part of the Gleneagles Global Hospitals Group, which was founded by Dr K Ravindranath in 1999 with a focus on complex multi-organ transplantation.

The hospital has over 500 beds and is one of the largest of its kind in Bengaluru. It consists of 14 operation theatres, claims to have the most advanced imaging facilities, and one of the largest liver ICUs in the country. The hospital caters to several key specialities including oncology, neurosurgery, liver diseases, and various others

Days back, the Gleneagles Hospital launched RecoSMA technology for rapid wound healing and tissue repair issues. RecoSMA Laser minimises damage to the skin or wound surface, which lowers the risk of complications. It offers a range of treatments for various skin conditions, including varicose veins, acne scars, burn scars, surgery scars, and psoriasis, consolidating multiple treatment options in a single platform.
