Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) has made a significant advancement in healthcare services by partnering with Manipal Hospital to establish a 24x7 Airport Medical Centre.
This initiative at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) aims to enhance medical support for both travelers and airport staff, ensuring immediate access to essential healthcare.
Commenting on the partnership, Hari K Marar, MD & CEO, BIAL, said, "We are pleased to partner with Manipal Hospitals for medical services at BLR Airport. This collaboration strengthens our commitment to passenger safety, ensuring expert medical care is always within reach. Whether it is a minor health concern or a critical emergency, this facility is equipped to provide immediate assistance."
The Airport Medical Centre offers a variety of services, including outpatient consultations, first aid, and diagnostic services such as X-rays and ultrasounds.
It is also equipped with a sophisticated emergency response system designed to address medical emergencies effectively.
One of the key focuses of this collaboration is to train airport personnel in life-saving techniques and raise awareness about critical health situations like cardiac arrests and strokes. This will help ensure swift action during emergencies.
A standout feature of the center is its advanced digital cardiac monitoring system, which allows for real-time monitoring of heart activity and alerts medical experts through a specialized app.
In terms of emergency support, the center has two ambulances from Manipal Ambulance Response Services (MARS), ensuring quick transport to Manipal Hospital in Hebbal when necessary.
Additionally, the facility provides fit-to-fly certifications and minor medical treatments to travelers, as well as conducts breath alcohol tests. To further prepare airport staff, the center will organize regular training sessions in CPR and first aid, equipping them with crucial skills to handle health emergencies effectively.
"Medical emergencies can strike anyone at any time, especially in transit hubs where timely intervention is often a challenge. A recent incident at BLR Airport, where a Manipal Hospitals doctor performed CPR and saved a passenger's life, underscores the need for an efficient emergency response. Our upgraded facility with a digital cardiac monitoring system enhances emergency care, ensuring that passengers receive prompt and specialized medical attention when every second counts." Dr H Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman, Manipal Hospitals, stated.
