Ambala’s Bansal Eye Hospital has launched the advanced SILK (Smooth Incisions Lenticule Keratomileusis) laser vision correction technology.
This technology aims to enhance treatment options for myopia and astigmatism, utilizing the Johnson & Johnson ELITA laser system.
Furthermore, the procedure, powered by the ELITA laser system, focuses on treating myopia and astigmatism, promising improved efficacy and accuracy in vision correction.
Commenting on the same, Dr Ashish Bansal, additional medical superintendent and senior consultant at Bansal Eye Hospital, said, "The SILK procedure offers a minimally invasive approach with enhanced precision, leading to faster recovery and improved visual outcomes."
He also highlighted the increasing demand for advanced eye care options in the region. With this launch, Bansal Eye Hospital claims to have become the first provider in North India to offer this solution.
"The introduction of the ELITA laser system at our hospital signifies a significant advancement in eye care technology. The SILK™ procedure not only enhances safety and accuracy but also allows patients to achieve clearer vision without depending on glasses,” explained Dr Bansal.
This technique involves creating and removing a small lenticule within the cornea to reshape it and correct vision issues.
In 2023, Johnson & Johnson Vision introduced the SILK (Smooth Incision Lenticule Keratomileusis) procedure in India.
Burzin Shahana, country manager of Surgical Vision India at Johnson & Johnson Vision, highlighted its benefits, stating, "With the SILK procedure, we aim to equip surgeons with advanced technologies that improve surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction in correcting refractive errors."
Correcting myopia, or nearsightedness, traditionally involves glasses, contact lenses, or surgery in specific cases, primarily for adults. Refractive surgery is a game-changer for myopic patients, enabling clear vision of distant objects without relying on glasses or contacts.
Johnson & Johnson Vision's SILK procedure is the latest laser vision correction approach tailored for individuals grappling with myopia.
Additionally, this technique entails gently creating and removing a small disk-shaped lens, termed a lenticule, within the cornea through a microscopic incision. This delicate process reshapes the cornea, leading to flawless vision for the patient.
