Apollo Hospitals has inaugurated the Apollo Genomics Institute in Karnataka, a state-of-the-art facility designed to integrate genetic diagnostics into routine healthcare.

This initiative marks a major advancement in personalized medicine in India, enhancing early disease detection, treatment precision, and risk assessment.

The newly launched institute brings together clinical geneticists, counselors, and researchers to analyze genetic data and improve patient care.

Genomics, the study of genes and their impact on health, is increasingly being used to detect risks for conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and neurological disorders.

By identifying genetic markers, healthcare providers can develop personalized treatment plans tailored to an individual’s DNA profile, ensuring more effective medical interventions.

India faces a rising burden of hereditary conditions, genetic disorders, and lifestyle diseases. The country’s diverse population is prone to ailments such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and rare genetic syndromes.

Genomic medicine plays a crucial role in early detection, targeted therapies, and disease prevention.

Expanding access to genetic testing and counseling is expected to empower individuals with informed health decisions, ultimately improving public health outcomes.

Advancing Research & Expanding Genetic Testing

The Apollo Genomics Institute will serve multiple medical specialties, including oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, neurology, and nephrology.

In collaboration with Apollo Diagnostics, the institute will offer advanced genetic testing such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), multi-gene panel testing, tumor genomic profiling, and prenatal genetic screening.

Additionally, it will contribute to research through the Pan-Apollo Genomic Network, fostering collaborations among experts to advance genomics in India.

Dr Manish Mattoo, CEO of Karnataka and Central Region, Apollo Hospitals, emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative.

He highlighted that the Apollo Genomics Institute is set to revolutionize healthcare accessibility by making advanced genetic diagnostics available to Indian patients.
