The four-year expansion plan aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure in these regions to meet growing patient needs

Apollo Hospitals, one of India’s leading healthcare providers, has announced a substantial investment of INR 1,625 Cr, targeting two high-demand locations—Mumbai and Lucknow.

The four-year expansion plan aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure in these regions to meet growing patient needs.

Worli Hospital Project

Apollo’s proposed facility in Worli will be a 500-bed hospital, developed with an estimated investment of INR 1,300 Cr.

The project will be executed through a "build, operate, and manage" agreement in partnership with Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal (KUMM), a public trust under the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950.

This arrangement includes the development of the hospital on a 1.7-acre land parcel in Worli, addressing an urgent healthcare need in South and Central Mumbai, where Apollo has previously faced entry barriers due to high real estate costs and lack of suitable land.

In a statement, Apollo Hospitals highlighted the facility's commitment to social impact, mentioning that "the Worli facility will have additional beds to meet Charity Commissioner rules for indigent and weaker sections of the society and facilitate KUMM in achieving its charitable and social objectives as well."

The project marks Apollo’s strategic move into South Mumbai’s healthcare sector, which has been constrained by limited space and high real estate costs.

The hospital chain’s increased presence in this dense urban area is expected to address the city's demand for critical healthcare infrastructure while supporting KUMM’s mission.

Lucknow Facility to Expand

In Lucknow, Apollo Hospitals’ subsidiary, Apollo Medics International Lifesciences, recently acquired a 1.2-acre plot to expand its existing facility. The expansion, valued at INR 325 Ct, will add 200 more beds, enhancing the capacity to serve an expanding patient base in the city.

The Lucknow healthcare market has seen recent competition intensify, with Max Healthcare entering through the acquisition of Sahara Hospital and Medanta already holding a presence.

This increase in competitive players highlights the city's need for expanded healthcare services. Apollo's move to increase its bed capacity aligns with its strategy to address rising demand and establish a stronger foothold in the region.

Apollo Hospitals currently operates a network of approximately 9,363 beds across its facilities, with 7,942 beds owned, 790 operated through management contracts, and 631 beds designated for day surgeries and birthing.

The company stated that Apollo’s expansion plans will be funded through a mix of internal accruals and debt financing.

The healthcare provider has consistently invested in expanding its footprint across India, aligning with rising healthcare needs in metro and tier-two cities.
