This new center will serve patients in the NCR and neighboring areas, significantly improving access to this innovative cancer therapy in Northern India.
Amrita Hospital in Faridabad has unveiled a Center of Excellence for CAR T-Cell Therapy, a cutting-edge treatment for specific blood cancers, including B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
This new center will serve patients in the National Capital Region (NCR) and neighboring areas, significantly improving access to this innovative cancer therapy in Northern India.
The new Center for CAR T-Cell Therapy at Amrita Hospital is set to streamline the treatment of certain blood cancers, offering a lifeline to patients with limited options.
CAR T-cell therapy is an advanced form of immunotherapy that uses specially modified T-cells to target and eliminate cancer cells.
Dr Sanjeev Singh, medical director at Amrita Hospital, emphasized the hospital’s role in advancing cancer treatments.
"From traditional treatment options to stem cell transplants and now CAR-T therapies, our team has been at the forefront of this advancement. The experience we’ve gained so far has positioned us as a leader in this domain,” he stated.
The hospital’s CAR T-Cell Therapy program is built on years of experience in treating blood cancers. It provides patients in the NCR region access to a treatment that has shown promising results in long-term remission.
Amrita Hospital’s CAR T-Cell Therapy Centre is expected to impact cancer treatment in Northern India significantly. Since the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) approved the CAR T-cell therapy drug NexCAR19 in October 2023, more than 100 patients have undergone this therapy.
Many of these patients have reportedly achieved remission lasting over two years, demonstrating the potential long-term success of this therapy.
Dr Prashant Mehta, senior oncologist at the hospital, shared insights on the significance of the new center.
"The launch of this center will streamline CAR T-cell therapy implementation, enabling durable remissions for more patients across Northern India," he explained.
Dr Mehta pointed to the therapy’s success in treating patients who have exhausted traditional treatment methods, hoping that more lives will be saved with its expanded availability.
The launch of this Centre of Excellence comes as part of Amrita Hospital’s ongoing efforts to expand its capabilities in cancer care, particularly in advanced therapies such as CAR T-Cell Therapy.
The center will provide personalized treatment options, allowing patients to receive specialized care close to home without traveling to other regions for this life-saving therapy.
Amrita Hospital’s leadership in bringing CAR T-Cell Therapy to the NCR region is a crucial development in the fight against blood cancers. The hospital’s medical team will collaborate closely with national and international cancer research.
