American Oncology Institute (AOI), one of the largest cancer chain hospitals in South Asia, has launched one of the largest Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) programs in India.
This initiative aligns with the AOI's aim to provide world-class healthcare services. In response to the rising demand for specialised BMT services, the program has been extended to cities including Nagpur, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, and Imphal.
Additionally, AOI plans to offer its services to multiple states in India ensuring that patients across the country have access to advanced medical treatments.
Sharing his views, Dr Anil Aribandi, haemato oncologist and BMT Specialist, AOI Hyderabad, said, "Bone Marrow Transplantation is a game-changer in the treatment of blood-related disorders and certain cancers. It offers hope to patients who may not have had any other viable treatment options. With this expansion, AOI is making a significant contribution to healthcare in India."
With the increase in cases, the need for Bone Marrow Transplant programs in India has never been more crucial. BMT is a life-saving procedure for various life-threatening conditions, including cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma and benign conditions such as Thalassemia and Aplastic Anemia.
Originally from the US, AOI was cofounded in 2006 by a group of physicians and industry experts associated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical College (UPMC). The institute provides comprehensive cancer management that is powered by clinical excellence, world-class technology, and international pathways and protocols.
The first AOI centre in India was set up in Hyderabad with the aim to close the gap between standards of cancer care and provide quality healthcare services to all sections of society.
Since then, AOI has expanded its operations to multiple cities across India and South Asia. Currently, AOI has centres in Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ludhiana, Vijayawada, and Bhubaneswar, among others.
In another significant development, Fujifilm inaugurated an AI-powered cancer screening health centre in Gurugram to evaluate cancer and lifestyle disorders in patients. The healthcare facility can screen for a total of 10 common cancers including breast cancer, oral cancer, cervical cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer and many more.
Just days back, the foundation stone was laid for Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBHRC) in Odisha. This institute is expected to boost cancer treatment and research in Odisha substantially. Moreover, it will house Asia's most advanced research-level cyclotron.
