Additionally, Amazon provides an opportunity for Prime members to buy a prescription drug subscription, RxPass, at a flat fee of $5 per month.

Amazon has expanded its healthcare services in the United States by introducing a cost-effective healthcare plan, One Medical for Prime, after its acquisition of One Medical for $3.9 billion in July 2022.

The membership, priced at $9 monthly or $99 annually, offers 24/7 virtual care – a $100 reduction compared to the standard One Medical fee.

The primary goal of this strategy is to extend accessible healthcare services to Prime members. The subscription includes unlimited round-the-clock virtual care, allowing video consultations with licensed providers and utilising the "Treat Me Now" feature for swift assistance with common health issues such as cold, flu, skin problems, allergies, and urinary tract infections.

The subscription, however, does not cover in-office visits to One Medical's clinics, yet Prime members near these facilities can schedule follow-up in-person appointments. These visits can be paid for using insurance or out-of-pocket payments.

Commenting on the same, Neil Lindsay, senior vice president of Amazon Health, said, "Easier access to healthcare encourages people to take better care of their health, resulting in improved health outcomes."

Additionally, Amazon provides an opportunity for Prime members to avail themselves of a prescription drug subscription, RxPass, at a flat fee of $5 per month.

This initiative focuses on providing generic medications conveniently by delivering them to customers' doorsteps. To enhance affordability, the integration of manufacturer discounts on branded medications into the checkout process has also been introduced.

Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, highlighted the new benefits accessible to Prime members through Amazon Pharmacy. He highlighted RxPass for delivering medications at a flat fee and Prime Rx, offering substantial savings on prescriptions at Amazon Pharmacy and over 60,000 other pharmacies nationwide.

Amazon's strategy is not just about profit but also aims to promote engagement in personal health. The company, post the acquisition, has extended its healthcare reach with One Medical's 220 clinics in 29 metropolitan areas.

This expansion has granted Amazon access to a significant employer market due to One Medical's partnerships with over 8,500 companies and access to a wealth of health data.

Based out of US, One Medical, established in 2007, functions as a membership-based primary care platform, combining technology with consumer-focused healthcare services.

One Medical isn't Amazon's first venture into health care. In 2018, the company acquired PillPack, an online pharmacy delivering medications to customers' doorsteps. However, Amazon faced setbacks, as evident in the discontinuation of its Amazon Care telehealth service last year, which offered virtual and in-home visits for testing and vaccinations.

The Amazon Health umbrella now includes One Medical, Amazon Clinic, and Amazon Pharmacy.
