Amazon has partnered with Hinge Health, a digital musculoskeletal (MSK) care platform, as part of its Health Conditions Program.

This program, launched in January 2024, connects consumers with virtual health services available through their employers or health plans.

Hinge Health is the first MSK care provider included in Amazon’s digital health benefits portfolio, joining earlier collaborators such as Omada Health, Talkspace, and Rula Health. This partnership expands Amazon Health Services’ efforts to streamline access to digital healthcare.

Bridging Care Gaps for MSK Conditions

The collaboration addresses a widespread but under-treated issue in healthcare. MSK conditions, such as back, joint, and muscle pain, affect 40% of adults in the United States, often leading to missed work, expensive surgeries, and dependence on pain medications. Many individuals remain unaware of existing care benefits, creating a critical gap in care.

Daniel Perez, CEO and co-founder of Hinge Health, explained, "Our mission is to help people move beyond pain, and our collaboration with Amazon allows us to reach people who may be suffering in silence. Amazon’s reach, combined with our evidence-based digital care platform that has treated over 1 million people to date, can enable more individuals to access our platform and programs, which can improve reported chronic pain by 68% on average."

Amazon's Health Conditions Program will enable consumers searching for pain relief products on its platform to discover Hinge Health services.

Customers can check their eligibility for employer-sponsored benefits, expanding the reach of digital MSK therapy to over 18 million people nationwide.

Aaron Martin, vice president of healthcare at Amazon, stated, "Amazon’s Health Condition Programs connect people with quality digital health solutions that fit their specific needs, often available as an employer-sponsored benefit. We're excited to collaborate with Hinge Health, our first musculoskeletal care partner, to simplify the journey to better health for those experiencing back, joint, or muscle pain.”

Evidence-Based Digital Care

Hinge Health offers a personalized treatment approach that combines wearable sensors, one-on-one coaching, and clinical care.

Licensed physical therapists, physicians, and health coaches develop tailored plans, including exercise therapy and education. For some patients, the program incorporates the FDA-cleared Enso wearable device for non-invasive pain relief.

According to Hinge Health, members report a 68% improvement in chronic pain and a 58% reduction in depression and anxiety after 12 weeks of therapy.

Launched in 2014, Hinge Health has raised over $1 billion in funding to date, including a $400 million round in 2021 led by Coatue and Tiger Global. The company now serves 1,800 enterprise clients, highlighting the increasing demand for virtual MSK care.
