In a significant development, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU), Govt of NCT of Delhi, and Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals (Akums) have joined hands to research specific therapy gaps and develop novel products for Indian patients.
This industry-academia partnership seeks to enhance pharma education and research opportunities for DPSRU students. Further, the partners will leverage their strengths and capabilities to introduce a series of novel pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and dermo-cosmetic products in India.
This move aligns with the Govt of NCT’s aim to empower the next generation of pharma professionals, thereby contributing to the growth and development of the country.
Sharing her views, Arushi Jain, director, Akums, stated, "The collaboration is an important step that we have taken forward to acquaint students with practical knowledge of the industry. We will foster a bridge between academia and industry by providing them access to the required resources and guidance. The efforts are in the direction of making the next generation of pharmacy students ready to contribute to the growth of our country. R&D projects assigned to students will harbour live research experience and help them attain a detailed understanding of the ongoing trends of the pharmaceutical industry"
The collaboration represents a step towards equipping students with practical, industry-relevant knowledge and experience, fostering a brighter future for the pharmaceutical sector.
Moreover, this will bridge the gap between academia and industry for the betterment of research and education in the pharmaceutical field.

This policy is accompanied by the introduction of the Scheme for the Promotion of Research and Innovation in the Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP).
The PRIP scheme aspires to position India as a global pharmaceutical leader by emphasising high-volume, high-value production while ensuring quality, accessibility, and affordability. Furthermore, it aims to nurture an ecosystem conducive to innovation by fostering collaboration between academia and the private sector and encouraging youth entrepreneurship through startups.
