This collaboration is set to enhance healthcare services in India by focusing on advanced diagnostics, innovative treatment methods, and real-time patient data tracking.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has partnered with Wipro GE Healthcare to establish the AI Health Innovations Hub.
This collaboration is set to enhance healthcare services in India by focusing on advanced diagnostics, innovative treatment methods, and real-time patient data tracking.
Dr M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, highlighted the importance of the partnership, noting that it aligns with the national goal of “Viksit Bharat” by improving healthcare services.
He stated, “The collaboration with Wipro GE Healthcare is a step towards enhancing precision care. Their expertise in AI complements AIIMS’s objectives, and this partnership will accelerate progress in MedTech development, ultimately benefiting patient care.”
Under the five-year agreement, Wipro GE Healthcare will invest $1 million in developing AI-powered solutions. The collaboration will specifically target advancements in cardiology, oncology, and neurology, with both parties working to build intelligent systems to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
AIIMS will play the role of the clinical collaborator, providing vital medical data and supporting the testing and validation of GE Healthcare’s AI technologies. A joint committee will oversee the initiative, which will cover both research and academic components, ensuring that AI advancements align with the healthcare needs of the country.
AI’s role in healthcare in India is poised to grow significantly, with experts projecting that it will contribute $25-30 million to the country's GDP by 2025. AI integration in healthcare aims to improve diagnostic precision, operational efficiency, and the overall quality of patient care.
As healthcare systems become more data-driven, AI has the potential to bring about significant improvements in both preventive and treatment-related services.
Parminder Bhatia, Chief AI Officer of GE Healthcare, spoke about the growing role of AI in India’s healthcare sector. He pointed out that the sector has seen substantial growth, driven by government initiatives, the adoption of digital solutions, and AI technologies. “AI serves as a key enabler for making healthcare accessible, improving predictability, and enhancing preventive care and diagnostic accuracy,” Bhatia said.
