The collaboration is set to drive advancements in medical research, improve healthcare delivery, and address key health challenges in India.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has partnered with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to foster collaboration in healthcare innovation, emerging technologies, and policy development.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Wednesday, aims to establish regular dialogues and develop innovative solutions to tackle healthcare challenges across India.
Highlighting the importance of the partnership, AIIMS Director Prof M Srinivas stated, “Leveraging synergies between these two premier institutions will significantly enhance translational research and improve patient care quality.”
CSIR, a leading research organization with a network of laboratories and innovation hubs, brings expertise in scientific and technological domains that align with AIIMS' clinical strengths.
The collaboration is set to drive advancements in medical research, improve healthcare delivery, and address key health challenges in India.
Dr Vinay Nandicoori, Director of CSIR-CCMB, remarked, “This partnership will pave the way for breakthroughs in research, significantly contributing to patient care and scientific progress.”
Key projects under the partnership include a pilot initiative to convert biomedical waste into soil additives, a technology tested by CSIR with AIIMS.
AIIMS Bhopal is currently deploying a molecular PCR-based diagnostic test for sickle cell disease, developed by CSIR-CCMB. The institutions also plan joint research efforts in genetic health and other critical areas.
In another recent development, just days back, AIIMS Delhi partnered with Wipro GE Healthcare to establish the AI Health Innovations Hub, aiming to advance AI-driven healthcare solutions.
As part of the five-year collaboration, Wipro GE Healthcare will invest $1 million to develop AI-powered technologies, focusing on cardiology, oncology, and neurology.
AIIMS will serve as the clinical collaborator, providing essential medical data and supporting the testing and validation of these technologies.
A joint committee will oversee the initiative, which includes research and academic elements, ensuring that AI innovations address India’s healthcare priorities while improving diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
