Hyderabad-based AIG Hospitals has announced an INR 800 Cr investment to install the state-of-the-art Proteus ONE Proton Therapy System with DynamicARC technology, sourced from IBA, a Belgium-based leader in proton therapy equipment and services.
Proton therapy is recognized as the most advanced radiation therapy available today, offering exceptional precision and minimal damage to healthy tissues.
The Proteus ONE system, enhanced with DynamicARC technology, introduces a cutting-edge delivery technique for proton therapy. This will be the first installation of its kind in Southeast Asia, elevating cancer care standards in the region.
AIG Hospitals will become the third facility in India to offer Proton Therapy and the first in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
According to the hospital, Proton Beam Therapy is highly effective in treating complex cancers, particularly in cases involving tumors near critical organs. It is also a preferred treatment option for children and adults with challenging cancer profiles.
“This strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone in AIG Hospitals’ commitment to delivering advanced, effective, and accessible cancer care to patients in India,” the hospital said in its statement.
Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, emphasized the transformative nature of this investment, stating, “The acquisition of the Proton Beam Therapy System and the strategic partnership with IBA represent a major step forward in our mission to provide cutting-edge, compassionate care.”
The Proteus®ONE system will be part of a new 300-bed dedicated Oncology Centre currently under construction at the Gachibowli campus.
This center aims to offer comprehensive cancer care on par with global standards, positioning AIG Hospitals as a leader in advanced cancer treatment in India.
In another development, last month, AIG Hospitals, in collaboration with US-based innovator Endiatx, introduced PillBot, a cutting-edge robotic capsule for endoscopy, revolutionizing gastrointestinal (GI) diagnostics in India.
This swallowable capsule, featuring advanced imaging and AI technology, provides a non-invasive alternative to traditional endoscopy, improving patient comfort and diagnostic accuracy.
