Global medical device company Abbott has launched the Navitor Vision, a new transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) system, in India.
Designed specifically for patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis at high or extreme surgical risk, the innovative technology aims to improve outcomes with a minimally invasive approach.
Aortic stenosis is a serious condition where the aortic valve narrows, impairing blood flow from the heart to the body. If left untreated, it can lead to heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
TAVI is a minimally invasive alternative to open-heart surgery, offering reduced recovery time and fewer risks. The new Navitor Vision system builds on Abbott’s existing TAVI technology, incorporating enhanced markers for greater accuracy during implantation and improved visibility for medical professionals.
The Navitor Vision valve addresses the needs of patients at high or extreme surgical risk due to age or medical conditions. By replacing a damaged valve through small incisions, typically in the groin, this procedure minimizes the trauma of traditional surgery.
Neeraj Singh, from Abbott’s Structural Heart Division in India, said “TAVI serves as a less invasive alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement, reducing symptoms and improving life expectancy for patients. Abbott’s Navitor Vision valve is a significant addition to our portfolio for structural heart treatments, particularly for heart valve diseases, offering hope to patients with limited treatment options.”
The Navitor Vision valve is positioned to advance the treatment of aortic stenosis with its advanced design that improves procedural precision. This cutting-edge technology allows for safer, more effective treatments, minimizing complications and improving the quality of life for patients suffering from severe aortic stenosis.
With the launch of this advanced TAVI system, Abbott aims to make a meaningful impact on healthcare in India. By providing access to state-of-the-art technology, the company hopes to expand treatment options for patients needing life-saving interventions.
